1. N.I. writes us that he is not sure whether his partner is faithful to him or not and asks us if, under such circumstances, he can have oral sex with him without a condom – or if there are other means of protection.topAnswer: It has long been considered that oral sex was less dangerous than the anal intercourse, and that swallowing the sperm could only produce infection when the subject had an ulcer on his digestive tract. It was also thought that gastric acidity could kill most of the active germs. However, two months ago an American research institute reported several cases of HIV infection in gays who were only having oral sex and to which no lesions of the digestive tract could be identified.
The condom is still the only effective way to prevent an HIV infection. Especially for the oral sex, producers created condoms with fruits flavours. It is true that some men feel uncomfortable when using condoms – but there is no other way!2. M.P. (from Iasi) is pregnant and for the moment doesn’t know the sex of her baby. She has a gay brother, and her husband has a lesbian cousin. She wants to know which are the odds for her baby to be homosexually oriented, too.
Answer: There are several theories related to the origin of homosexuality – among them, the hereditary one. According to this theory, the homosexual orientation is transmitted from mother to son, through a gene situated on the X chromosome. A survey showed that 7% of the gay men have a gay uncle, from their mothers’ side.
However, the hereditary theory is rather contested by medical researchers. Therefore, it may be that your baby has the same chances of being gay or lesbian like everybody else: that is, 5% if it is a boy and 2%, if it is a girl.
