ACCEPT Today

Currently, the activities of ACCEPT are structured on projects on the following domains: 

1. Lobby, information, networking

a. Through advocacy activities, ACCEPT intends to have the article 200 eliminated from the Romanian Penal Code in order to put an end to the discrimination by law of gay people in Romania. The promotion of a legislative initiative in this respect is accomplished on the basis of a partnership and co-sponsorship with the Romanian Academic Society (SAR);
b. A monthly newsletter presents ACCEPT's activities, and tries to facilitate a dialogue among gays, lesbians, and bisexuals; 
c. An Information and Documentation Center that focuses on gender and sexual minorities related issues, the only of its kind in Romania - co-funded by the Open Society Institute Budapest;
d. Networking with other organizations and attending local or international conferences and meetings, with the purpose increasing the visibility of lesbian and gay people, of promoting ACCEPT's activities, informing the Romanian and foreign public opinion and organizations about the situation of lesbian and gay people in Romania, and identifying partners for future projects; 
e. ACCEPT organised the Annual ILGA Europe Conference on October 4 to 8, 2000, in Bucharest.

2. Social activities and services 

a. Safe House - a series of meetings where ACCEPT members and sympathizers discuss issues they are interested in or watch fiction gay/lesbian movies or documentaries, with the purpose of consolidating their self-confidence; 
b. Psychological counseling for lesbian women, gay men, bisexuals, transsexuals (LGBT), as well as for their relatives and friends on issues related to sexual orientation and identity - co-funded by the Embassy of Canada to Bucharest;
c. Medical counseling in view of preventing HIV and STD infections among LGBT people - co-funded by UNDP (United Nations development Fund) Romania;
d. Information and education in order to reduce the occurrence of HIV infection among GLBT people - project co-funded by UNDP Romania.

3. Organisational development 

This domain implies a continuous training in the NGO management, especially by means of collaborating with the Romanian Civil Society Development Foundation (FDSC), as well as administrative activities. 



ACCEPT's main partner organization is the Dutch organization NVIH/COC

ACCEPT's main supporter is MATRA - a funding program of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

ACCEPT is grateful to both MATRA and Co-Operating Dutch Foundations for Central and Eastern Europe for its financial contribution that allowed the organization to buy its current building and to make an important step towards its independence and financial sustainability.
